About APEX
APEX - the Association of Equine Professionals for Excellence - was founded on a simple principle: the horses in our care deserve professionals who are held to a documented, science-backed standard. We believe in voluntary accountability. Professionals who choose to be APEX certified are making a statement about their values- not just their skills.

Our Mission
Our Mission: To advance equine welfare by recognizing, connecting, and supporting equine professionals who demonstrate exceptional standards of care, competency, and ethical practice.
Our Framework
APEX certification is built on three evidence-based frameworks:
-
Maslow's Hierarch of Needs - applied to equine physiological, safety, social, and esteem needs.
-
The New Pyramid of Training - a modern, welfare-forward approach to horsemanship.
-
The Five Domains of Welfare - the gold standard for evaluating animal wellbeing.
These frameworks are not APEX inventions. They are the scientific and professional consensus on what good horse care looks like. We hold our certified professionals to these standards.
